The Right in Review
2021 brings some color to the Whitewashed House. A mausoleum of dead horses and Rag-red Christmas trees. The Democrats are promising to deliver us from this desiccation, flipping Trump’s orders like pancakes, Right Rage the syrup.
President Biden has called for unity, as makes sense for a moderate, and as Republicans are creatures of habit, the Grand Old Party expects it, reaching over the table to take fries. They dine and dash, leaving Liberals to pay the bill. Truth is, the Right has nothing to give in return, unless it’s reactionary resentment, contrarianism, and let’s not forget the racism and homophobia that never seem to collect any dust. That argument is not trite when there is a pattern of behavior.
For four years their Great Pumpkin was top of the patch, using an arsenal of talking points and excuses to help him grow while the rest of the garden dried out. Fascism was in fashion and Trump’s supporters cosplayed themselves as rebels, individuals, and “patriots,” not seeing the irony. As the rest sat under the gaslight, they would shadow puppet what they thought was subversive.
Conservative ideas have been a bedrock of this country, whether we like it or not. Vintage is a great aesthetic, but it isn’t constructive. The same gears have been turning since the founding. The Right keeps having face-lifts, injecting young people who treat politics like…
